March 28th Late (Noel Coward Closing)
« Thread Started on Mar 29, 2009, 1:42am »

In-bloody-credible! The atmosphere was just imnense! Highlights :

1. Chris fluffed the start of It Sucks To Be Me. Went something like this :

AUDIENCE: AAAAAAAAAAAAH!
Brian : No, it sounds stupid.
Kate : Oh, come on!
Brian : .. *Misses music cue* ... WHENIWASLITTLE, I thought I would be!
AUDIENCE: *Laughs lots*
Brian : They threw me off!
Kate : What?
Brian : A big comedian on late night TV.
... etc etc...
Brian : It sucks to be me!
Kate : ...Uh huh.
Brian : It sucks to be me.
Kate : Yup.

2. EVERYONE got loud, loud entrance screams. Daniel kept stopping at the end of songs and just going "...Oh my God." with Princeton. There was applause and screaming left right and centre, and you could tell it was really fuelling the cast's performance forwards.

3. This conversation with Doug at stage door :

Me: You're going with it, yeah?
Doug: Yep!
Me: ...It's been three years, are you not sick of playing the same 22 songs every single night?
Doug: The PC answer would be no, wouldn't it? Hell, this is Avenue Q. Yes Ollie, I'm bloody sick to death of it :P But I'm contractually obliged to stay with the show until it officially closes.
Me: ...You were sooo close to freedom.
Doug: Please, don't.

4. The stage door after the late = Busier than December 1st 07 (those of you who were there that day know that means very very busy) - absolutely mad atmosphere.

5. The after curtain call material was hilarious - generally, I'm not a fan of the current cast's improv efforts (they do try, but generally aren't so great with ad lib - but then again, why should they be? its not part of the job), but it was hilarious stuff. Mark especially was right on the money, and Daniel and Julie were working off eachother nicely too. Everyone laughed lots :P

6. Everyone clapped along to the beat of the end of "Porn", the start of "Sucks reprise" and the end of "For now" - it was brilliant.

7. Chris' very lame joke at stage door; "Feel good at the Gielgud"... Oh dear, Christopher :P

Anyone else there want to add to this? If anyone on here filmed with me for the new fan site material, then thank yoooou!

Ollie x

I will add Julie and a couple of others going down with the curtain til they were lying on the floor waving!

And the fact that the puppets were in their holiday clothes for the speech.

Chris missing his cue was funny. It was pointed out to him at the stage door, he had forgotten!

I didn't think the stage door was as busy as cast change. How long did people stay for? I saw Julie and Chris and then my friend who is a steward rung and said they had been planning to sneak out, so we went to the pub round the corner. I was talking to puppet man for a while, he remembered me from when I was shown round :)

I hope they got everything out OK! I did envy them having to work all night.

Oh, Ollie, where were you sitting for the matinee?

I LOVED "Feel good at the Gielgud". Chris is essentially Brian.

Also, I loved how much applause Rod got for coming out. He started blowing us kisses, it was seeeriously boss. And eveything Ollie mentioned was wonderful too. The fact that the theatre was packed to the rafters with what seemed to be exclusively fans of the show made it a really special experience.

Here's what I can remember of the curtain call stuff. They (the puppets) all come out in their summer clothes, Rod says that they're leaving the Noel Coward and Nicky runs off.

Nicky: Okay, see ya!

Rod: Nicky, come back, we're going on holiday!

Nicky: Why am I always the last one to know this stuff?

Kate: Didn't you wonder why we were dressed like this?

Nicky: I thought we were going to one of Rod's dodgy-

(audience erupts with laughter and Rod slaps Nicky furiously on the arm)

Kate: No, we're going on holiday for some sun, sea and SE-

Rod: Some well deserved rest!

Then they explain about going to the Gielgud, thank everyone at the Noel Coward and say goodnight.

I was in stalls row C, middle of, for the matinee (: - I wander when all the new branding'll go up front of house at the Gielgud. I love the fact that "Enjoy" already has one of the big signs with lights round the edge - that'll be a quick change then.

Why do I have an image of Cameron walking round London going "I'd LOVE to transfer Avenue Q, really, but there just isn't another theatre with a big light u-... Guys? Hold the phone. I think I've just had an idea."

Oh I *thought* that was you! I have no idea why I was so convinced, since I'm pretty sure I have never even seen a picture of you before. You were next to an empty seat? I was on the other side of it :)

I almost said something. But I didn't. Obviously.

Such a great show and a great atmosphere that night. I was sat in Row Q.

Me and my 2 friends were filmed for the fansite. I let them do all the talking though as I was pulled into it at the last minute.
