Arrived at the Noel Coward today with two of my friends where we were lucky enough to get 3 fabulous seats on row E of the stalls for this afternoons performance.
Whilst we were at the theatre (at around 12pm) I checked the cast board and saw that last night the understudy Christmas Eve was on...and hoped that this would change before the 5:45 today because I was desperate for my friends to see a full cast.
After eating and wondering around aimlessly for hours we got back to theatre at 5pm...and the cast board had changed. WE'VE GOT FULL CAST! YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!
Cue me doing a very silly little dance next to the box office. Uh huh. Just that cool.
We took our seats in the auditorium. AWESOME SEATS! So close to the front, but not so close we got neck ache.
It's hard to know where to begin when it comes to reviewing the actual show. All of the cast were brilliant throughout. The talent on the Noel Coward stage is just mind blowing. I finally got to see Julie as Kate/Lucy and wasn't disappointed. Her performance was flawless. Full of emotion, brilliant comic timing and what a voice! Jon and Simon were brill too. I love watching their facial expressions...tell so many stores. Simon has the most expressive eyes I think I've ever seen. Naoko was especially good today, she's got a fab voice and got lots of laughs as Christmas Eve. Sion as Brian was also great, him and Naoko have really good chemistry I think.
Giles got lots of laughs as Gary...he's also got one hell of a set of lungs on him!
I also have to give Clare a mention. I adore her. Her facial expressions are just brilliant and so much fun to watch.
*tries to think of funny moments*
The Money Song was hillarious...Jon came running full pelt down the left hand side of the auditorium with Princeton and was really getting in peoples personal space. Naoko had to spend a good minute or two trying to explain to the people in front that they had to pass the hat. They didn't get it.
People were actually chucking handfuls of spare change in the hats. I was like "you ain't gonna get that back!"
Anyway, 5 minutes after the end of the song, a man from the audience walked down to the front of the stage and put another hat on the stage...I guess it must have just reached him or something. Anyway, Simon's face was a picture when he found it after the last curtain call and took it off stage. I love audience members.
Oh and at the end of the Money Song when Princeton (Jon) chucks the hat up in the air he didn't catch it, made a scramble for it but still dropped it behind him. He just kinda stared at it before doing jazz hands with a look of amusement on his face.
Anyway, the cast were really well received from a very lively audience. They got roared at at the curtain call and it was very well deserved because they were absolutely sublime.
Unfortunately I couldn't go to the stage door after the show as one of my friends had to get back for an early start at work tomorrow, but hopefully it'll be third time lucky!
Hope this was kinda interesting, I'm rubbish at reviews.
Fantastic show, loved iiiiiiiiiiiit
