A couple of weeks ago, Avendia Q, the Spanish production of the show, opened in Mexico. This production differs from the others because it has a more colorful set that actually rotates to allow for set changes(The buildings are also at an angle to the right of the stage instead of straight in front like we're used to). The puppet actors also wear colorful clothing instead of the usual black: www.esmas.com/noticierostelevisa/galerias/8385/avenida-q-la-puesta-en-escena/The cast also has a Youtube channel(Which I've previously posted in the video section): youtube.com/user/kattymonster

I loved the fact that Avenue Q hit Mexico. Just made a lot easier my dream of a Brazilian production to come true. Beautiful photos, I loved how well-made the puppets are. I've been seeing kattymonster's promotional videos for a while. I think they did a good job with the translations, even though it's still much better (and funnier) in english (well... for obvious reasons).

The puppetry wasn't great. They weren't mirroring their puppets the way they should be. And why were the actor/puppeteers in bright colours!?

The problem is, I guess, they made a lot of their marketing around that one mexican pop singer who plays Princeton/Rod sometimes (not all the time, because of his so-called 'band'). He's not all that talented, you know?
Besides, there's this thing I tend to see a lot in some casts from Avenue Q. It's like the puppeteer forgets that the puppet is supposed to be the star, not them. I've seen that with some videos with Barret Foa as Princeton/Rod (please Foa's fans... if there's any here... don't hate me). He just kinda puts himself ahead of the puppet, making the audience pay attention to him. Yeah, ok, it's impossible not to pay attention to the puppeteer, but when he does that intentionally it kinda ruins the fun.
But I still liked the puppets. So damn beautiful! I hope the brazilian ones get to be this great too. And I hope our puppeteers will be able do a better job (since our translators... not so much...).
