One of mine would have to be Fantasies Come True. It's a completely magical, show-stopper of a song, that's also incredibly moving. Kate and Rods duet is beautiful. And even though it's clearly Rods big number, the moment with Kate isn't just filler, it's incredibly sweet. It's a great song for Rod, because all you've seen so far is this stand-offish hard outer shell and then all this tenderness and affection just pours out at once. And that heart stoppingly sad last line...
I love Mix Tape purely because it's incredibly sweet and frankly the wierdest mix tape I've ever heard...
Loud as the Hell you want is just hilarious. From the bad idea bears dancing with Gary to Christmas Eves outfit, it's just fantastic. And the fact that it comes right before Fantasies Come True is part of the genius of the show. Being able to take it from this raunchy hysteria, to such a tender love song.
Another would be the Internet is for Porn. I can't get through that song, I get tears in my eyes from laughing. Also, I wanna know what kind of porn Rod's been watching...
Fine Line is stunning. Kate's such a great character and it's so brave and so strong and yet totally vunerable at the same time. And it's a great summing up of the show, which is why it's a perfect number to end act 1 on. Lines like "if someone doesn't love you back, well it isn't such a crime" kind of resonate with the fact that Rod kicked out Nicky and obviously "you gotta go after the things you want" comes back to the purpose arc. But it's Kates big number, it's Kate trying to rationalise what just happened.
Life Outside Your Apartment just rocks. As does Shadenfreuda.
And then the incredible incredible incredible I Wish I Could go back to College. That song resonates with me personally so much and yet I'm sure almost everyone my age would say the same. It's another show-stopper.
I pretty much love all the songs, but those in particular do it for me. What about everyone else?
