The puppetry from everyone has improved massively. The difference is astonishing, no one's puppetry could I single out, they were uniformally superb. Rebecca's acting and comic timing has got vastly better, she was outstanding last night. Daniel and Mark were both hilarious and moving. I really respect Mark for not being afraid to make Nicky serious in the serious bits. The same cannot be said for his Broadway equivilent, sadly. But yeah, he seems genuinely devestated and sorry when Rod kicks him and out and the fact that he's able to do that makes the comedy funnier. Daniel is just a natural. His comic timing is the best I've seen since Johnny Tartaglia. And again, he was very moving. Simon Gorton was on as Brian. He did a fantastic job. I'd happily see him replace Chris Fry when his contract's up. I mean, who better than someone who knows the show that well? He deserves it. We had a very good understudy Christmas Eve (who maybe could have made more of her lines, but only occasionally) and a SUPERB undersudy Mrs T/Girl Bear. I didn't catch her name, but she was very young and blonde. Anyway, her puppetry, comic timing, all of it was spot on. You'd think she was out there doing that every night. Edward was SUPERB as Gary. It's the first time I've seen him. He's so naturally funny, he made so much of the script and just gave it his all. OH, Daniel seriously fluffed his lines in Purpose:
"Could be far, could be near, could take a week, a JOB, a year!
At a JOB, smoking grass..." Well, you get the idea... He carried on like a pro and I'm the only nerd in the audience that would have noticed. No stage door stories, sadly. But great, great night.
