. If they hire someone from Musicool though I shall have to boycott it! Out of principle. Agreed.

Oh God, hiring someone from Musicool would be a bad idea :S But I like the show, so I think I'll go see it all the same...

RENT is a good production, though I've only ever seen the Film version (in fact, I spent a lot of my time procrastinating from real life things to learn the words to La Vie Boheme). I really enjoyed it, but I can remember thinking just before Angel's death "My God i'm bored...", but when it did pick up, it picked up big time. There are some amazing songs, (Will I? I'll Cover you, La Vie Boheme, Life Support, Take me or leave me), some tracks that just...well...drag on... (Light my Candle, Santa Fe) and then tracks that end up being forgettable (Halloween, and *don't shoot me* the title tune) Bring on the London production (I don't think original is perfect), and It can be added to my list!

I wouldn't say the opening song was forgettable. You play those opening chords to most people who know theatre and they'll immediately relate them to RENT. The film wasn't a good representation of the musical I don't think. They tried to make it pretty and modern and... well the beauty of RENT is how raw it is. Eg. Daphne Rubin Vegas husky sound as opposed to Rosario Dawsons pretty riffs.

Trust you to find this thread patchwork Rent is ok - I think it can be a bit dull in places. It's not one of my favourites but there are a few good songs. I'll only go and see it if my friends want to, there's no way that I'd make a special journey for it. Btw, if it does come to London, there are rumours that it'll be on at The Duke of York's Theatre.

I wouldn't say the opening song was forgettable. You play those opening chords to most people who know theatre and they'll immediately relate them to RENT. I wasn't talking about Seasons of Love, but the "How we gonna pay, last years rent?" one (Not sure on its title!)

I loved the film and can't wait for the West End version. I'm not sure about updating it though. And setting it in London? What is going to happen to "What You Own"? ("living in America..." etc.)

It's not even going to be RENT by the time it opens. It'll be "The Show That Was Known As RENT Now Ripped To Pieces In A Desperate Attempt To Draw In A New Audience And Make More Money"
